Hain gets behind Darfur Divestment campaign PDF Print E-mail

At 5pm Tuesday 19 June, Labour deputy leadership candidate Peter Hain MP, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, will address a public meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Genocide Prevention, called to discuss targeted divestment and sanctions on over the ongoing ethnic cleansing in Darfur.

William Hague, Lib Dems support call for divestment PDF Print E-mail

In a parliamentary debate on Darfur, Tuesday 5 June, shadow Foreign Secretary William Hague backed calls for targeted UK divestment from companies operating in Sudan whose investment enables the government to continue atrocities in the troubled region. Speaking to the house Mr Hague said, 'We believe that the time has come for the UK to make a formal policy of encouraging companies with financial ties with the Sudanese Government, or government-related projects, to reconsider those links'.

Rolls Royce Withdraws Because of Darfur PDF Print E-mail
The Aegis Trust's Darfur Divestment campaign has been informed by Rolls Royce that the company is withdrawing from Sudan. Rolls Royce has been supplying diesel engines and support for the oil sector in Sudan. The oil sector has boomed since oil was found in Sudan, allowing Khartoum's to spend its oil revenues on its military campaign in Darfur and on paying the Janjaweed. The Darfur Divestment campaign had been pushing for British companies which provide revenue for the Khartoum government to end their operations while the mass killings in Darfur continue.

Sudan Divestment Oxford Launches PDF Print E-mail

Sudan Divestment Oxford is contributing to a worldwide campaign to bring an end to this crisis through the use of targeted divestment. Within Oxford University we are putting pressure on colleges to divest from companies who are funding the Government of Sudan. Through this financial pressure we hope induce the Sudanese government into changing its actions in Darfur.
