Petrobras (Brazil) appears on the Sudan Divestment Task Force’s watch list The Sudanese Ambassador to Brazil announced in 2006 that Sudan and Petrobras, Brazil’s para-statal oil corporation specialising in offshore drilling, have discussed investment opportunities off the coast of Sudan. Petrobras has a strong history of corporate social responsibility and is the first and only Latin American country to be a member of the United Nation’s Global Compact Committee. It is also a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. As no contract or memorandum of understanding has been signed at this point, now is the optimal time to engage Petrobras and encourage the company to think about how any proposed operations in Sudan would potentially help fund the ongoing genocide in Darfur. How you can help To help make sure that Petrobras does not perpetuate the documented link between oil development in Sudan and the current situation in Darfur, the Aegis Trust and Darfur Divestment are seeking volunteers who wish to run a Darfur advocacy campaign or Sudan Divestment campaign in Brazil. Qualifications You should have a commitment to human rights campaigning and the time to dedicate to organising petitions, political lobbying campaigns, protest events and media work. It needn't take too much time - especially if you share the work with other volunteers. To leave your name and email address on this page to be contacted by other potential volunteers or if you would like further information and advice, please contact our International Divestment Leader by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it If you have skills and experience in areas such as political lobbying, human rights campaigning or press and media relations this would be desirable but not essential.
