New Mexico Divests from Sudan PDF Print E-mail

Governor Bill Richardson directs New Mexico Permanent Fund to divest $45 million from seven companies that support the Government of Sudan, becoming the 22nd state to divest from Sudan. New Mexico will be divesting $16 billion from the ‘worst offenders’, including Sinopec, Lundin Pertoleum, and PetroChina. In addition, the SIC will prohibit future investments in over a dozen additional companies identified by the Sudan Divestment Task Force.

In a press statement from the SIC, State Investment Officer Gary Bland said the decision will send a “strong message to the corporate world that New Mexico will not accept investment profits that come at the expense of innocent lives lost to genocide.”
